The Batman Not Part of the DC Extended Universe
Wait what? The Batman is not a part of DC universe?
If you following movie news, you should have knew by now that Matt Reeves the director of two films of Planet of Apes series going to direct the new upcoming Batman movie. By the way he did a wonderful job on those movies. Recently he was on the podcast by The Hollywood Reporter and he was asked about the upcoming Batman movie and he dropped a bit of a bomb by saying that the Batman movie he's working on and what he'd like to be a trilogy is actually a standalone and separate film from the DCEU. What? This is what he exactly said,
Well I have a vision for a way to do something with that character (Batman) that feels like it resonates with me personally and a perspective that can grow out into other things when they (Warner Bros.) approached me what they said was look it's a standalone, it's not part of the extended universe.
Now this statement comes right on the heels of the news that dropped yesterday that Warner Brothers is looking to develop a Joker movie being produced by Martin Scorsese that also is not a part of the DCEU. We are seeing a trend here now before we go too much into it consider one possibility that maybe when Matt Reeves use the words it's not part of the extended universe maybe he means that it's in the DCEU, but not a part of the DCEU. It's just not hyper connected, we are not going to see crossovers, that is a possibility. May be this is what he actually meant when he said not part of the extended universe just like earlier what we saw with Wonder Woman.
If this is indeed a standalone Batman that sits outside of the DCEU then it will be it's own thing and DCEU is going to be parallel with this without interfering. Really? This is going to work? May be, may be not, but surely a bold move by Warner Bros. Why i think his statement is true and we may actually see Batman outside of DCEU? Well because of the whole drama with Ben Affleck. Few months after the announcement of Ben Affleck as director for the upcoming Batman movie and i guess he finished the script by then, there has been rumored surface about him leaving the project as director which recently debunked by himself on Jimmy Kimmel show. He told that he was indeed still directing Batman, but few days later Warner Bros. announced that he was not directing the Batman and then Matt Reeves came into the picture. After that he gave the reason that he just decided that directing it and acting in it is going to be too difficult. Really!!! You just decided that? I am not going to buy it. May be something fishy going on, If there is any, we will uncover it very soon.
May be there is another possibility that upcoming Justice League is really unwatchable and they are moving on with the standalone movie leaving behind the idea of connected universe. Or may be they found their success pattern with the huge box office and positive reviews of Wonder Woman. Who knows? Personally I hope these character may stay out of this universe in their own standalone movie, but still stay a part of larger DC universe, we have been hoping for a long time. I think there is nothing here and we fans are reading in between lines and trying it to make sense. Judging the track record of mixed receptions the DCEU getting by the viewers so far except Wonder Woman, these type of statements only putting oil into fire. So guys tell me how do you think this is all gonna play out and if true what do you think the ramifications are both for things that are upcoming and for things we've seen happen in the past. How do you think it affects the way we should view all this stuff, jump into the comments section below and let me know your thoughts.
The Batman is projected to be a 2019 release.
